Char Siu

 

(Chinese Barbecued Pork)

 

1 teaspoon Five Spice Powder

1 heaped tablespoon Sugar

2 teaspoons Hoi Sin Sauce

2 teaspoons Oyster Sauce

2 teaspoons Bean Paste

1 piece Red Beancurd

1/2 cup Soy Sauce

1 cup Water

1clove Garlic

1/2 inch piece Ginger

1 teaspoon Red Dye (optional)

 

1.     Place above ingredients in a pot and bring to the boil.

2.     Recommend using shoulder pork.  Slice meat along grain into steaks 1/2 - 1 inch thick.  Sprinkle salt & sugar on meat.

3.     Put meat in marinade and leave overnight (in fridge)

4.     Roast meat at high heat or grill. (Turbo oven is great)

5.     Slice thinly for serving.
